We Bought an RV

2010 Forest River Georgetown 3367DS

In late 2015, before our daughter was born, we started kicking around the idea of buying a lake house. Steve and I have always loved being on the water and it felt like a dream we had always had for our family. We searched for a while, and visited a few locations, but nothing felt like the right choice. We were well into 2016, Zoey was a new addition to our family, and weren’t finding anything…It starting to feel like we were looking for a unicorn property. Then one night, I mentioned to Steve that “maybe instead of spending our long weekends in one place, we buy something that let’s us spend our vacations anywhere we want?” It must have been a lightbulb moment for him because a few days later he started showing me Class A RV’s for sale! I thought we would dabble with a small class C, or even a tow behind…after all, we had never “glamped” before. We’d earned the right, however, after many many Summer weekends tent camping in College, but this was still uncharted territory. But as most of you may know, or will soon realize, Steve is a ‘go big or go home’ kinda guy. Fast forward to August of 2016, Steve, is brother, cousin, and uncle flew down to Florida, bought an RV and drove it home…Do you need a CDL to drive an RV? Nope! Had any of them drove an RV before? Also Nope! Guess there’s only one way to learn!

We were pumped. The boys (4 at the time) had a big new toy in the driveway, I was excited to get my hands on the interior and “make some changes,” and Zoey (5 months old) couldn’t wait to drool on everything. Above are the listing pictures. She was in pretty good condition expect for a few upholstery issues, so we had the banquet, pullout couch, and captains chairs re-upholstered. Here she is with a few changes.

  • New upholstery

  • painted the table

  • Removed the valances

  • Installed a peel and stick backsplash.

  • Added a black out curtain behind the captains chairs (This is crucial if you plan on night driving and you’ll still have your kiddos in the back who want the lights on).

  • Removed all of the wall paper boarders

  • Added some decor touches

Some key features that we loved:

  • The couch AND the banquet turned into beds

  • We liked having the couch across from the banquet rather than on the same side (like most layouts). This made it nice for hanging out inside together.

  • Tons of storage above the seating, and in the master bedroom

We were ready for our maiden voyage!! First stop, the local campground to test out all of the bells and whistles..and to figure out what we still need to have packed and ready for taking on the road. Let the adventure begin!
